Nottingham Trent University has been officially recognised as the most sustainable university in the UK after once again claiming top spot in the prestigious People and Planet University League 2016. The success builds on the university’s tremendous

track record in the table – the UK’s only comprehensive and independent green ranking of universities – which it has now topped three times. The accolade – which builds on last year’s impressive

ranking of fourth – follows major environmental initiatives at the university, such as the creation of the eco-friendly award-winning Pavilion building on the Clifton Campus. The carbon-negative building uses an array of solar panels, energy-efficient glazing, natural light and insulation.

The University has also worked to embed

sustainability within the curriculum as part of its ‘curriculum refresh’ project, meaning that every taught course will include sustainability content relevant to that specific subject area. The ‘Greening the City’ project, meanwhile, has

created new green spaces on the City Campus for staff and students, with more planned for the future. Grant Anderson, Environmental Manager at

Nottingham Trent University, said: “We are delighted to once again top the People and Planet University League. “This fantastic result backs up our recent Gold Award

for the LiFE Sustainability index. Creating sustainable campuses is simply good business. They are clean, efficient and safe places for students, staff and wildlife.”

fire, security and communication specialist, won the prestigious ‘Combined Security & Fire Solution of the Year’ award at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards 2016. In a black-tie ball at the

London Hilton Park Lane, TIS beat off competition from eight other companies to win. Managing Director of

Combined Services James Twigg said: “To have received national recognition for our innovation, technical and design ability, and also our professional installation, is overwhelming for the whole team.” The Security & Fire

Excellence Awards, which we hosted by TV comedian Jimmy Carr, highlights the very best people, projects and processes that the security and fire sectors has to offer.

Find the skills that your business needs

Leicester Castle Business School at De Montfort University has expanded its Executive Company Project (ECP) initiative, which helps small businesses by providing the skills and talents of an MBA/MSc student for a variety of business research. The Chamber is working with

Leicester Castle Business School and is keen to promote the no-cost business research resource to its members. Every business has times when

they need a skilled resource for a short period, such as to investigate an initiative or research and remedy an issue. Usually employees

have limited spare time or the budget is not available to hire staff. MBA/MSc students are equipped

with relevant skills such as social media, financial analysis, business process re-engineering, digital marketing, customer and competitor intelligence and analysis, international trade and project and risk management. Some students will come from international locations, able to assist with research into potential overseas commerce. The ECP students come from a

variety of courses undertaken at Leicester Castle Business School. Students will have studied a variety

of subjects at an undergraduate level, and many have placement or work experience already. Leicester Castle Business School

offers ECP students twice a year, from February to April and from June to August, in two forms; either an on-site ‘Internship’ where the student conducts business research tasks at the office premises, or a ‘Consultative’ project which is conducted remotely. The process for gaining this

business resource is simple. Chamber companies can email to pg.businessecp@dmu.ac.uk confirming interest in one or more students to support business

projects. They will be sent a proforma to add details of the business project. These project briefs are securely advertised to applicants and Leicester Castle Business School supply the CVs of interested applicants and offer support with interview arrangements either at your offices, on campus, or by phone/Skype.

The deadline for submitting a project brief is 10 March. For further information please contact pg.businessecp@dmu.ac.uk and have a look at the website www.lcbs.ac.uk/corporate/executi ve-company-project
