What does your company do? We run a small group of well know pubs in Warwickshire trading under the Lovely Pubs
name.These include well know pubs such as Boot Inn Lapworth
How did it all start? The first pub was the Boot in Lapworth 20 years ago,it was very different then and became an overnight
success.The other seven pubs quickly followed on.
What’s your greatest achievement so far? Managing to buy some of the best land mark pubs and developing them into individual successful well know venues
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Buying the Queens Head in Bromsgrove. Boarded up for two years with no one wanting the pub made us very nervous. Luckily it is our most successful pub!
What keeps you awake at night? Our biggest worry is finding good people to grow the business with us. The is a hugh shortage of people wanting to work in hospitality
If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? We have turned down some pubs in the past which have gone on to be great successes.
What has surprised you most in your job? How loyal our customers are to what we do and how they share our vision as to how a good pub feels.
What advice would you give to someone starting out? Make sure you love what you are
doing.Never compromise on the detail and surround yourself with good people.
Which business do you most admire? Danny Meyer who owns the Union Square Hospitality Group in the USA. They always deliver unbelievable service, atmosphere and truly understand hospitality.
What exciting projects is your business working on? We are building a boutique hotel at The Baraset Barn and have just worked on re designing a hotel in Antiqua.
What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? The Chamber is a great forum to meet like minded people and learn form their business stories and experiences.
