24 CHAMBERLINK February 2017

Chamber president Paul Kehoe has told Premier and 1813 Club members that he has vowed to continue his efforts to put Birmingham on the world map. He said that the theme he had

adopted for his term as president was ‘geography’, and specifically Birmingham’s place in the world. He said: “We are a small part of a

very small country, yet a very important part. Over the next two years we are going to have to find ourselves. The economic scale of the UK is going to change drastically. “So we have to look at the best

asset we in the Midlands have to sell to the world and that is Birmingham. “That does not mean that

Coventry, Wolverhampton or Dudley, or wherever, are less important than Birmingham but we need to understand that because what people buy on a world stage is a place. “What would be really good

would be to get people from around the world saying how good we are. Getting the city’s name out there is even more important post-Brexit.”

Mr Kehoe was speaking at the Chamber’s Premier/1813 annual lunch, which was hosted by the city’s new Park Regis hotel. More than 100 guests gathered

for the event, which combined key addresses from Mr Kehoe and Chamber chief executive Paul Faulkner with a formal lunch and networking.

Mr Kehoe, also the chief executive

of Birmingham Airport, also spoke about the importance of connectivity to the fortunes of the city. “It’s increasingly important

connecting ourselves to the world. For me, it’s not just about the airport, it’s about connectivity and promoting Birmingham as the great place to do business,” he said.

Flying high after day at the races

West Midlands IT services company EBC Group has raised a massive £10,000 for its chosen charity, Midlands Air Ambulance. The company raised the

astonishing sum after holding a special race day at Wolverhampton Racecourse. The event saw the company’s

clients and partners get full VIP treatment during a day that included a three-course dinner, racing and a number of fundraising activities. The event was part of EBC’s new

commercial partnership with the racecourse. During the event, EBC managing

director Richard Lane and three of his management colleagues took part in a ‘bush tucker’ style-trial, which saw them eat a whole host of unappealing insects. Mr Lane said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the money we have

raised via our festive race day - thanks to the generosity of our clients and partners, the fantastic donation will now go to the worthy Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

helping them maintain the lifesaving service.” Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

provides critical care to six Midlands Counties.
