Star stylist picks up award

Jane Brook (pictured) has picked up accolades for team productivity and star stylist at the House of Colour annual awards. The 48-year-old

from Worcester is the regional manager for the Purple team who won the team productivity award after achieving higher productivity per head than any other team. As star stylist she has

helped numerous clients across the county through the use of colour analysis techniques which defines the pigments that sit beneath the skin. This can then determine which colours of clothing and accessories lift the face. Jane, who started her House

of Colour franchise six years ago, said: “Winning this award means a lot to me because I want to be able to run my own franchise whilst doing something which can really transform people’s lives.”

Excel Boats make a splash on the big screen

Rigid and inflatable boats supplied by a Sutton Coldfield firm have been used in two blockbuster movies and a BBC TV series. Excel Boats have featured in

films Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, the children’s classic Swallows and Amazons and the brooding BBC TV period drama Poldark. In Absolutely Fabulous: The

Movie, characters Edina and Patsy (played by Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley) attract both media and police attention for accidentally knocking supermodel Kate Moss into the River Thames. One of Excel Boats Vanguard

535 inflatable models was used as a fugitive getaway boat for the sequence, with other boats from the firm acting as support and rescue vessels. The company also supplied a

film crew with boats for the new film adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s tale Swallows and Amazons. The production team shot in and

around Coniston and Derwentwater, and Plumpton Rocks, near

Harrogate in Yorkshire. Onboard footage was obtained using Excel’s Vanguard 4.3 metre inflatable boat as a camera platform. Excel Boats owner Terry Wright

said: “We are thrilled with our boats being used in these films and popular television show. It’s fantastic that film crews see our

boats as stable and practical enough to use at platforms for their incredibly expensive equipment.” It is not the first time the

company has supplied boats to production teams. An Excel inflatable was used the James Bond film Skyfall starring Daniel Craig in 2012.
