MBE honour for international adviser


Allen Matty, who has spearheaded international trade in the West Midlands for a number of years, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year honours. Mr Matty is managing director of West Midlands


Midlands businesses will be exploring opportunities in the export market, by taking part in trade visits to the United Arab Emirates and Mexico. A Midlands Engine group travelled to


Dubai on 29 January for a market visit to Arab Health. Led by experienced trade advisers, companies taking part in the visit were able to pre-arrange meetings with commercial advisers and buyers. In February, there is an opportunity to


join a mission to one of the leading events in Mexico for the automotive supply chain. Delegates will be able to hold one-to-one


meetings with international buyers and meet experts with extensive intelligence. The International Business Convention for


the Automotive Industry takes place between 20 and 24 February in Queretaro and Mexico City. Mark Sankey, head of the Department for


International Trade team at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “Joining an organised trade mission is an excellent way to explore opportunities in the export market.”

On 8 March, Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is organising a free-to-attend matchmaking event at Ecobuild, the world's biggest exhibition for sustainable construction, next March. The EEN says that the event will provide


the perfect forum for potential partners to pre-arrange meetings and capitalise on UK and international construction opportunities, energy efficiency, recycling. Sunny Claire, business advisor, said that


the objective of the event was to recruit West Midlands businesses to participate in the matchmaking event, which he said was an opportunity to meet with international companies seeking joint partnerships. He added: “This matchmaking event is


ideal for West Midland’s companies active in supporting a greener and cleaner built environment and those seeking International partnerships to help grow their business.”

Chambers of Commerce LLP (WMCC) and among his responsibilities is delivering services for the Department for International Trade (DIT) in the region. The award is for services to international trade in the West Midlands. Mr Matty said: “I am thrilled and honoured to


be recognised for a career which has been so fantastically rewarding. The real reward has been in helping so many businesses grow internationally and for us to be among the best- performing regions in the country.” Mr Matty, 52, has over 35 years international


trade experience in various sales and senior management roles involving the supply of industrial products worldwide and the delivery of international trade services in the West Midlands. His entire career has been devoted to selling


British products overseas and his commercial experience in international markets focused on the Gulf States. In April 2007 he joined West Midlands


International Trade LLP, a partnership of the six regional Chambers of Commerce, as operations director, responsible for performance and change management together with responsibility for the delivery of UK Trade & Investment (now DIT) services in the region. In 2010 Mr Matty was appointed managing


director, West Midlands Chambers of Commerce LLP, where he led the organisation’s subsidiary

LLP, West Midlands International Trade, to bid for and win two successive UKTI delivery contracts in 2011-15 and again in 2015-20. Mr Matty has overall responsibility for the


DIT’s West Midlands delivery partner, and through his leadership his team provides over 3,500 businesses annually with support and advice on international trade matters.


IFL forges French connection


A Coleshill-based freight forwarding business has forged a new partnership with a major French company. International Forwarding Limited (IFL) says its


partnership with Safram France will broaden its European transport affiliate network for customers shipping to and from France.


The new partnership will include main hubs in


Paris in the north, Lyon in the Rhône-Alpes in the South East and Le Pontet in Avignon in the South. Safram is a long-standing European transport


company of Swiss origin, with a fleet of 240 trucks, 27 warehouses, 25 network points in Europe and 300,000 square metres of storage space. Rob Pike, managing director of IFL, said: “We


are very pleased to be able to offer a flagship French service to both new and existing customers with increased departure frequencies, servicing the whole of France. “Technological advances also bring benefits,


for example, the use of handheld scanners to collect and upload proof of delivery paperwork in real time. “At IFL, we constantly strive to offer our


customer base the very best levels of customer service, and this extended service offering will allow us to do just that.”
