President marks return to the Falkland Islands
Greater Birmingham Chamber’s extensive international links are set to reach the other end of the world this month. Chamber president Paul Kehoe is taking a holiday
in Antarctica and South America, during which he plans to visit the Falkland Islands and link up with the local Chamber of Commerce. It also marks a return to the islands for Paul – he
was stationed at RAF Stanley Airfield as an air traffic control officer in 1984-85 The chief executive of Birmingham Airport said:
“During the Antarctica leg, my ship will be calling in to Stanley, weather permitting. I am greatly looking forward to seeing the changes in the community since I was stationed there. “Birmingham as a global city must do business
with communities large and small. The opportunities for business in South America and the Falklands are significant as we manufacture the very things those communities need. “The JLR products are very at home in the
Falklands but equally some of the technology we are
creating in the Midlands should help with the development of oil and gas and construction of facilities in the Falklands. “Through the Chamber’s recently re-launched
International Business Hub, we are seeking alliances and business opportunities across the world so I will take this opportunity to forge links with the Falklands.” Stacy Bragger, executive secretary of The Chamber of Commerce in the Falklands, said: “The Falkland Islands are a friendly, positive and dynamic place to do business. The Chamber is the leading private sector, member-focused business organisation in the Islands and our board consists of eight directors, with Dr Andrea Clausen holding the role of chair. “As with any Chamber of Commerce, we work to
remove barriers to private sector growth and we represent businesses across all sectors of the economy. The Falklands have challenges typical to small and remote economies, but the economy remains vibrant and the Chamber of Commerce will continue to work towards supporting our members.”
