Deer Park School Promises Auction & Quiz Night for Ghana Hailed a Great Success
ners, proved auctioneer extraordinaire later in the evening, as he led the room into a bidding frenzy.
Items to go under the hammer were donated by local businesses, as well as by individuals, and in- cluded spa treatments, Alpaca walking, works of art, an England rugby ball signed by head coach Eddie Jones, and even a holiday.
“The students are extremely grateful to John Thomson, Ian Street and all the generous ‘Promis- es’ donors”, said Chair of Governors, Graham Rus- sell. “The support in the room was terrific which made for a brilliant atmosphere and a great night.”
The community of Cirencester Deer Park School came together on Friday 14th October for a Prom- ises Auction and Quiz Night to raise funds to assist 27 students on their 4,000 mile volunteer expedi- tion across the globe to Ghana.
The trip in April 2017 will see the students from the school head to Woe in Ghana, where they’ll be working in the community to aid the development of local children, building new classrooms, teach- ing English, sports and other key skills.
The Promises Auction and Quiz Night was attend- ed by 173 supporters. Teams took part and pooled their knowledge and brain power to answer topi- cal questions in a fun but highly competitive quiz hosted by Quizmaster Ian Street from Hamptons Estate Agents. Ian went on to put in an unexpected ‘reappearance’ and surprised the packed hall with a highly entertaining performance as Elvis! (above)
John Thomson, of surveyors Thomson and Part-
Headteacher Chiquita Henson was delighted: “We’ve had some wonderful feedback from the evening. The students’ original goal was to raise £2,000 on the night, and I’m thrilled to report that the event raised in excess of £3,000! The students, parents, staff and community well and truly kicked into action for the cause.”
