4. Provide some background “white-noise” such as TV, radio or othermusic, well in advance of the fireworks starting.
5. Ensure your pet has access to a quiet bed or ‘den’ to settle in if they are distressed by the noise of fireworks. Let cats hide where they like, if your cat is scared, don’t pick him up or restrain him.
• Don’t take your dog to a fireworks display, or walk him or leave him outside if fireworks are being set off.
• Don’t leave your pet alone if he is scared, your presence will help reassure that he is safe. Excessive panting or yawning can indicate that he is anxious.
• Don’t fuss and comfort your dog as this will make his fear worse. Stay calm. Prepare for the evening as best you can and then ignore him unless he is calm and behaving normally in which case give him the usual fuss and attention.

The event was also a special occasion to ap- peal to those interested in wildlife to join Oak and Furrows for an an- nual fee of £2.
Staff and volunteers ran the Open Day, which in- cluded presentations by generalmanager Barry Branigan, Cricklade Band Academy, a puppet show, face painting, site tours and classes in how to make a bird feeder.

Oak and Furrows Open Day Raised £2,500
