Cirencester Scene Magazine - Establishing Local Connections Cirencester Camera Club

On Monday 3rd October we spent the evening going through the Western Counties Photo- graphic Federation (WCPF) Travelling Portfolio. Four smaller groups took turns to view and critique four sets of around 25 winning prints. These were compiled from entries from vari- ous camera clubs in the area, including some of ours. We were able to see them close up, and to discuss and debate their merits amongst our- selves. It emphasised how very different judges can be in their tastes, but proved a very valuable learning experience for us.

Competition Night on 10thOctober was packed with hopeful entrants keen to learn their results. The set subject of the season’s first competition was Sports & Pastimes, alongside the regular Open Competition, and as submissions could bemade in both print and digital formats, there were four categories in all. Competition Secre- tary Carlo Vuolo said he was delighted to have such a high number of entries.

Our independent judge was Colin Walls, nowa- days from Malvern, but previously amember of this Club. He went through all the photos and gave his thoughts, both positive and negative, on each. In some cases he actually demonstrat- ed ways he felt the pictures could be improved. The feedback from a fresh, experienced eye is always worth hearing, giving pause for thought before your next attempts.
