If you pay for something costing between £100 and £30,000 on credit most providers are equally liable if something goes wrong. Equal liability only applies to some regulated credit agreements made between a consumer, a supplier and a credit
provider.Most credit cards apply but some agreements are exempt and it is worth checking in advance to ensure you get this free additional protection.
Some Christmas Shopping Advice from Citizens Advice
To be covered by these provisions, the cash price of any single itemmust be more than £100 and not more than £30,000 (including VAT), al- though claims can be made for more than one item in any one transaction. A part payment to- wards the purchase of goods in this price range can be sufficient to give the credit provider equal liability.
If a problem arises with the goods or services bought on credit, you may be able to seek re- dress from either the supplier or the credit pro- vider or both. This does not mean you would receive more by going to both the supplier and creditor, but it may give you a better chance of the problem being resolved. There is no re- quirement under s75 for you to take legal action against the trader first before seeking redress from the credit provider.
