Female Focus towards improved hearing
Recent UK research has revealed that ONE in TEN adults would benefit from wearing a hearing aid – yet only ONE person in THIRTY does. Why is this?
Well, for most people the primary obstacle to wearing a hearing aid seems to be the stigma of age. Unlike glasses which have progressively become a mainstream fashion item, a hearing aid still counts as an ‘unwanted’ item for the ‘elderly’.
On many levels this is ridiculous. Especially because most hearing aids these days are barely visible, if at all. Wearing a hearing aid doesn’t make you look old, in fact it is the other way around ... not wearing a hearing aid when you need one, does make you appear old, having to say “Pardon?” the whole time!
With all the hype around the Olympics and the Paralympics, haven’t we become used to people using prosthetics, wheelchairs, supports and all kinds of physical aids now? Modern hearing aids these days are completely different from those of even 5 years ago, they are better designed, and digital giving much improved hearing quality. If you are struggling to communicate and realise that your quality of life is not as good as it once was, hearing aids can help give you back both your confidence and your independence.
Hearing aids come in all different shapes, sizes and types. However, all hearing aids work in a similar way. They have a built-in microphone that picks up sound, which is processed electronically inside the hearing aid. The resulting ‘signals’ are then passed on to a receiver – like a tiny loudspeaker – where they are converted back into louder sounds that you can hear.
