INTRODUCTION TO IMPORTS AND EXPORTS

BACKPACKING AROUND THE WORLD

Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has been supporting international trade for more than 230 years through documentation, training and development, access to new markets and, most recently, through our International Trade Forums and Behind the Scenes International events. Our International Trade

Forums provide the opportunity for our international trade members to network, share their challenges, experiences and successes, learn from one another as well as hear from organisations which can support their global growth ambitions. Our June International Trade

Forum was held in the premises of Trakke, a member of Glasgow Chamber and was hosted by its founder, Alec Farmer. Alec established Trakke in 2010 while studying graphic design at the Glasgow School of Art. Delegates atending the forum heard how he spent his formative years knee deep in the skips of Glasgow finding materials he could use to experiment and develop new bag

designs quickly and cheaply. In 2012, he relaunched the company with a vision to manufacture high-quality products in the heart of the city using some of the finest materials manufactured in the UK. Today, Trakke manufactures

its range of outdoor lifestyle products from its premises in the SWG3 Studio Warehouse in Finnieston and sell direct through its website to customers across the globe. As each bag is handmade to order, Trakke involves the customer in the making process, creating a connection between the product and its provenance in real time. Alongside Trakke’s own range, it has collaborated with brands such as Timorous Beasties, Nigel Cabourn and Jura Whisky to create bags that are functional, stylish and built to last a lifetime.

SPECIALIST INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRAINING

Glasgow Chamber of Commerce works in partnership with Exporter Services to provide specialist export sales training and support services to businesses trading globally. We deliver a suite

So oſten, exporters and importers embark on the journey of moving freight without understanding the implications of HMRC costs and risks. Exporting is not a black art, but it is just a litle more complex than we think. Training, education and knowledge will encourage those working in the movement of goods to spread their wings and be cost effective while abiding by the many current changes to HMRC rules. Tis programme will enable delegates to understand the

of Leters of Credit presentations being discrepant, we need a beter understanding of the rules and who has responsibility for what. Interpretation plays a large part and this programme will show you how to submit complying documents first time and how to take control back. Delegates are encouraged to

bring along a Leter of Credit and share any issues they may have had with discrepancies. Tere will also be a practical example to work on together to mitigate the risks involved. Information about all

forthcoming international trade training can be found on the website www.glasgowchamberof commerce.com Glasgow Chamber of

Commerce gratefully acknowledges the support of its International Trade Partner, Clydesdale Bank, in the delivery of its international trade activities.
