1,500 and counting... It is estimated that Glasgow city centre has more than 1,500 stores. These include the 'Style Mile' which incorporates the likes of Buchanan Galleries, St. Enoch Centre, House of Fraser, Princes Square, the Argyll Arcade, John Lewis and Debenhams
see these areas being included in the wider tourism strategies or area regeneration plans to help increase footfall.”
Vital personality
Anne Ledgerwood is General Manager of St. Enoch Centre and Chair of the City Centre Retail Association. She believes the health of the retail sector shows the city's vibrancy. “Te employment retail provides and the revenue it generates are important, but it’s also a vital part of the ‘brand’ of the city.” Despite the growth of online
and out of town shopping, Anne is of the opinion that every city centre has a unique ‘personality’. “Events such as the retail
festival show how people can work together to develop that personality. Te 'People Make Glasgow’ brand has been successful for the city and the 17,000-strong retail workforce has a big part to play in reinforcing that brand.” She was encouraged by the
extent of retail engagement with the festival (approximately 150 retailers were involved in one way or another) and the partnership struck up with public sector bodies such as Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Glasgow City Council. “It shows that everyone pulling
together can make things happen – we have to take that spirit and build on it.”

A LITTLE HELP WHEN IT’S MOST NEEDED…
Some would say that the changes to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 couldn’t have come at a worse time. With budgets being tightened across whole industry sectors there’s no money available for the all the extra work involved in understanding the new standard, let alone implementing the new requirements. We are seeing organisations, who are looking to achieve certification, no longer thinking it’s financially viable and those who have already achieved it are wondering how they are going to maintain their system, never mind the transition to a new version of the standard. So the team at QMI has put
together a number of packages with our keenest prices and choice of payment options that we think we can tailor to most organisations' requirements. We understand that times are tight but we also know that any time and resources already invested in a
project cannot be discarded simply because there doesn’t appear to be a way forward. We are confident that we can
help you get back on track whether that be to gain a new certification, maintain an existing certification or transition to the revised standards for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. We have a professional and experienced team from a variety of backgrounds who have been working with the new and existing standards and are familiar with the requirements as they apply to our clients... so what have you got to lose? Give us a call or check out our website – we might just surprise you.
