Following a presentation by representatives from Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) to Glasgow Chamber of Commerce members in May 2016, Synergie Environ owners, Marina and Uisdean Fraser, took the opportunity to visit the DAFZA premises to check out the facilities with a view to opening an office in Dubai. The new office will act as a base for their potential business interests in the Middle and Far East. Synergie Environ believes

The Wheatley Group has announced that it will invest more than £100m over the next five years in maintaining and improving communities across central Scotland. The huge investment will coincide with, and


complement, an overhaul of the Group’s environmental teams – with a recruitment drive under way for almost 200 jobs, apprenticeships and training places. Housing, care and property management


group Wheatley is recruiting for a number of posts including: 91 full-time environmental staff jobs; 45 environmental apprenticeships and 45 environmental trainee opportunities. The apprenticeships will be open to unemployed


young people living in Wheatley communities. The traineeships are available, under Wheatley’s new Changing Lives programme, to people needing extra help to get on the employment ladder, including homeless people. The apprenticeships are for two years and trainee positions are for one year.


Management and staff at Spruce Carpets Limited based in Govan, Glasgow, is celebrating its success, having picked up one of Scotland’s most prestigious business awards at Quality Scotland’s 25th Anniversary Awards ceremony held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Spruce Carpets gained a coveted ‘Committed to


Excellence’ award at Quality Scotland’s ‘Scottish Awards for Business Excellence’. This award demonstrates a continuing focus on business improvement, to build on its strengths and attain even higher levels of excellence throughout its entire operation. The ‘Committed to Excellence’ award has been


incorporated into the Revolve accreditation programme – Revolve is Scotland’s national re-use quality standard, for shops which sell second hand goods in Scotland. Spruce Carpets achieved the plaudits at the 25th


anniversary of the Scottish Awards for Business Excellence, where they were joined by other Revolve- accredited organisations and more than 300 guests across the private, public and third sectors, to celebrate Scotland’s outstanding achievements in the field of business excellence.


Scottish Exhibition Centre (SECC) Limited has announced its financial results for the year ended 31 March 2016, reporting another very successful financial trading year with turnover and EBITDA (excluding the impact of the Commonwealth Games) both increasing to £29.4m and £3.8m respectively. The company reported a


record year for conferences with 16 international events held and 18 per cent revenue growth for the sector. Turnover from exhibitions


increased by 17 per cent over the previous year with six new shows added as well as a high retention level for established events. In 2015, the venue was host to the All-Energy exhibition and conference – the largest sustainable energy show in the UK. The growth in the


conference and Exhibition sectors has in part been facilitated by greater space availability created by the majority of live entertainment activity moving into the SSE Hydro. Live Entertainment turnover


was in line with the previous year with visitor numbers once again exceeding 1 million. the SSE Hydro continues to be one of the world’s top venues, maintaining a top three position in the Pollstar rankings for the busiest live entertainment arenas worldwide.
