Getting set to make a splash

Places are still available for teams to take part in the annual Nottingham Riverside Festival Dragon Boat Challenge. Companies, clubs and organisations from across the East Midlands are

getting ready to do battle on the waters of the River Trent, at Victoria Embankment, on Sunday 7 August. As well as aiming to knock the reigning champions, Nottingham-based Cargopak,

off their pedestal, teams will also be raising money for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. Last year, over £23,000 was raised for Rainbows. No previous experience is necessary to join in the fun, just plenty of team

spirit and enthusiasm. The dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment are provided and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races.

Constructor joins Stride framework

East Midlands-based contractor Willmott Dixon has been appointed to be part of the Stride Major and Minor Construction Framework, a ten-year programme to redevelop hospitals in Burton upon Trent, Tamworth and Lichfield. The appointment came as the

company underlined its long-term investment in growth and jobs across the region by relocating over 50 employees to a new central Nottingham office at Lock House. The move last month, to the Southern Gateway of the city, is a platform to support further expansion in the East Midlands. Stride is a strategic infrastructure

and efficiency partner (SIEP), a joint venture between Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Health Innovation Partners. The partnership aims to deliver

efficiency savings and infrastructure projects over the next decade. Stephen Spall, Partnership

Director at Stride, said: “We are pleased to welcome Willmott Dixon to the Stride Major and Minor Construction Framework and we look forward to working with the

contractor on future projects across the Burton Hospitals estate. “Stride is working with the Trust

in the redevelopment of its estate to ensure it better serves the clinical functions of the hospital.” Nick Heath, Operations Director

at Willmott Dixon in the East Midlands, said: “This appointment to the framework is a fantastic opportunity for us, as we will be able to help Stride transform sites and spaces which no longer meet the needs or demands of busy medical teams and their patients.”

Willmott Dixon raised £122,000 for charity in just 24 hours through a staff challenge. The task pitted teams against

one another to help raise funds for homelessness charity Shelter, with staff undertaking everything from silent auctions to hitting the streets with collection boxes in a bid to beat their colleagues. Nick Heath said: “We are

committed to giving something back to the communities in which we work and this challenge was a really fun way for us to do that.”
