Interns to spend a winter in the UK

Chamber members are being asked to provide winter internships for pupils from a secondary school in France. Emfec, a charity that provides

services and support to the further education and skills sectors, was asked to help find placements because it has close ties with the Academie de Strasbourg local education authority. The objective will be to help the

students improve their language skills and acquire commercial experience, preferably in management, customer service, marketing and accountancy. Funding is available to cover

travel and accommodation costs. There is no funding for the firm offering the placement.

Utilise the Student

Placement Office The Chamber has its own International Student Placement Office (ISPO) which works with members to create opportunities to bring foreign university students to work on longer-term projects in the UK. ISPO placements are usually for

six months and have specific project goals. The Chamber’s ISPO service

includes matching students to employers, sourcing accommodation, arranging travel and ensuring both the student and the employer are entirely happy.

A chance to be part of IFB2016

The ‘Made in Britain’ brand has international respect and the Chamber will be playing its part in delivering that message this month. Working with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), it is offering firms an opportunity

to spend two days at Liverpool’s International Festival for Business (IFB2016). IFB2016 takes place between 13 June and 1 July and will host more than

70 conferences and seminars with globally-renowned business leaders. The Chamber is giving firms an opportunity to attend the manufacturers’

conference and business networking event at IFB2016 on 14 June. It has arranged a partnership deal with UKTI to cover delegates’ travel,

accommodation and attendance costs. David Pearson, the Chamber’s Head of International Trade, said: “We

shall be travelling by coach to Liverpool during the evening of 13 June, staying at a local hotel and then attending the event on 14 June. “This is a great opportunity for local manufacturers to take part in

IFB2016 and take some different thoughts back to their business.” Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis

to manufacturing businesses only. David will be hosting the trip. To join him, or for more information, call

him on 07823 416907 or email david.pearson@emc-dnl.co.uk Later in the festival, UKTI will be taking an East Midlands delegation to

the Global Sports Summit, Going for Export Gold: Opportunities in Major Sports Events, on 30 June. The budgets for the world’s top 50 major sporting events

between 2016 and 2025 are estimated to total £230bn. With 30% of procurement done internationally, this creates a

potential export market of nearly £70bn for UK companies, including contract opportunities for the Olympics and FIFA World Cup. As a part of IFB2016, UKTI is hosting a conference for

companies wanting to learn how to take advantage of these opportunities. The organisers are looking for companies that specialise in a wide range of sectors. There will be opportunities to meet

overseas experts and UK sports exporters.
