INTERNATIONAL TRADE

ENTERPRISE EUROPE NETWORK (EEN)

Trade mission to Poland A market visit to give East Midlands exporters the opportunity to connect with new business partners in Poland will take place in September. To give firms a better understanding of

the Polish market, EEN and the Chamber invite local food and drink companies to take part in the trade mission, which runs from 26-29 September. Poland’s was the only economy in the Central

and Eastern Europe region to avoid a downturn during the global recession of 2009. In 2015, Poland’s economy grew by 3.6%. In the same year, East Midlands

companies exported goods with a value of £209m to Poland and imported £500m worth. The Polish market is potentially 38 million customers. Sectors in particular demand include food and drink, retail, energy,

security and healthcare particularly in demand. Jan Immel (pictured), the Chamber’s International Trade Contracts and

Networks Manager, said: “Poland’s consistently strong performance in the face of global economic troubles makes it an attractive market for East Midlands exporters. With this in mind, we are delighted to provide local businesses with these exciting opportunities to find out more and assist them in finding international partners.”

Have your say… public consultation on the ePrivacy

Directive On 6 May 2015, the European Commission adopted the Digital Single Market (DSM) Strategy. The adoption included an announcement that eprivacy rules would be

reviewed. The review of the ePrivacy Directive is intended to reinforce trust and security in digital services. The European Commission is now seeking views on the current ePrivacy

Directive as well as possible changes to the existing legal framework, to make sure it is up to date and in line with the new challenges faced by those in the digital space. The consultation is open until 5 July and comprises just 33 questions

which should take only a few minutes to complete. The feedback from the consultation will be used to prepare a new

legislative proposal on eprivacy, which is expected by the end of the year. To take part in the consultation, visit http://bit.ly/1TMxEWY

Tap into Chinese travel habits

Research has revealed where regular Chinese travellers plan to visit this year, when and how they will spend their money. Over 5,000 Chinese people who

holidayed abroad in the past two years, or said they planned to travel this year, took part in the survey. The result, Global Blue’s Globe Shopper Report: China Edition, is a

useful tool for international retailers. The survey was supplemented by

Global Blue’s own data, captured from more than 27 million tax-free shopping transactions each year. The key findings of the survey

show that 81% of Chinese travellers will spend the equivalent on average of £2,794 shopping in Europe and £1,984 in Asia.

‘Four-out-of-ten Chinese travellers said they planned to visit Europe this year’

The average holiday budget for

Chinese travellers is £6,224 but one-in-ten will allocate between £9,708 and £12,943 for holidays. Four-out-of-ten Chinese travellers

plan to visit Europe this year. Six per cent plan to visit the UK. “Knowing the shopping habits of

travellers, what they are most likely to buy, how much they have to spend and when they are most likely to visit, means retailers can accurately target potentially huge markets,” said David Pearson, the Chamber’s Head of International Trade. “This is the kind of data capture that retailers should be looking for and making sure they use to their best advantage,” he added.
