Every year, millions of cod come down from the Barents Sea to the north Norwegian coast, particularly Lofoten. The reason for this innumerable return is to find a mate and to spawn the next generation of cod, who will continue the cycle by journeying back to the Barents Sea. With good reason then, the cod has earned the local nickname of the Valentine Fish.
