YPI Update—Miranda Muir, Chair
As I write this article, I am just 27 days away from this year’s Osceola County Fair. We have more planned for this year than ever before, which means our team is busier than ever. I am pushing them harder and this past week the extra stress was showing. If you work in the Fair industry, you know the feeling. Twelve hour workdays still are not long enough, someone just walked in the door with a project that should have been started months ago, and everyone is on each other’s last nerve. It is just another busy day in the office. Even amongst the chaos, I am energized, excited, and looking
forward to the future. At last night’s Membership Meeting, our Junior Board presented two initiatives to generate interest amongst their peers, seats were filled by a few of our younger members who are rarely seen, and we received a wonderful fol- low-up report regarding our, YPI driven, holiday charity drive.
It
has been a slow and steady process, but the future of the organi- zation is shaping up. Hopefully with continued support and en- couragement, it will only get better. I hope the efforts of the Young Professional’s Initiative are
making a difference for you as well. Maybe it is just baby steps or maybe you have seen big strides. I am proud to be a part of a group of true professionals, working hard to ensure the legacies of our fairs continue for many years to come. And the best part is, we are just getting started. As I mentioned in the last issue, we have started new communi-
ty service programs and are looking forward to awarding two deserving groups a $500 grant to continue their efforts. I hope you have all started working on worthy projects and are reaping the rewards. Supporting oth- ers and helping fill a need can pro- duce the most heart-warming feel- ings. Enjoy. I will also soon be soliciting fellow
YPI members to help us staff the convention table. As we spon- sor this year’s charity drive, we will need all hands on deck. An hour of your time will go a long way to help out, so please be sure to sign up for a volunteer shift. We hope to collect an over- whelming amount of supplies for the St. Augustine Youth Ser- vices group, while reaching out to spread the word regarding our group. In the meantime, best wishes to our many Spring events. I
hope the sun will shine and crowds will be plentiful. And do not forget, even on the most hectic day, take time to encourage the young members of your team. Try to share your experiences and show them the ropes, while giving them room to spread their wings. They are the future, and it is so important they stick around to help us grow, advance to new levels, and continue to succeed.
