A Message from Adam Putnam, FDACS
Like standing on the shoulders of giants who came before them, every generation owes a certain amount of credit to the hard- working people who came before them. This week, I had the honor of recognizing one of the “giants” of Florida’s agriculture and fair community.
Lisa Hinton is a fifth-generation Floridian, life-long
agriculturalist and executive director of the Florida Federa- tion of Fairs, and I was proud to recognize her as the 2015 Woman of the Year in Agriculture this February at the Florida State Fair. Lisa has dedicated her life to the ad- vancement of Florida agriculture, fairs and agriculture ed- ucation and youth programs. Lisa served as the director of agribusiness for the Florida
State Fair, where she developed nationally recognized youth programs in agriculture that reflected her philosophy of “we're raising kids, not animals.” In addition, when the National Future Farmers of America Organization voted to allow female membership in 1970, a young Hinton jumped at the opportunity to join. She later became the first female
to be elect- ed a State Future Farmers of America officer in Florida. Lisa is a
true advo- cate for
Florida ag- riculture. The pro- grams she has imple- mented and the individ- uals she has inspired will have a lasting impact on Florida agriculture for generations to come. I thank Lisa for her years of dedicated service and contributions to Florida agriculture and Florida’s fairs.
