Convention Showcase Committee Paul Davis, Chairman

‘Tis the season for those of us in the fair industry! Many of you have

either just wrapped up your fairs or are gearing up to begin. As we all prepare for our Annual Convention/Zone 2 Meeting coming

up in May, the showcase committee and I have been arduously working to bring top-quality acts from which you can choose. In our planning, some concerns have been brought to our attention that I believe are important for us to be aware of. A primary complaint from our associate members is that they spend a significant amount of money and prepare extensively to perform at our showcases, and, as they have expressed to us, receive little to no return on their investment. I know we all realize how important our associates are, as they comprise more than half of our membership. And let’s be honest – we all know the importance of entertainment in drawing and retaining visitors to our fairs. These indi- viduals provide tremendous value to our events, and we need them. With that being said, I have a request for each fair. I would like for

you to save one or two of your entertainment slots to book acts out of a showcase and/or the trade show. I intend to do just this in order to better support our associates, and I hope you will consider doing the same. In addition to their travel expenses, many of these selected showcases are

Winter Board Meeting

The Federation Board of Directors met for the winter board meeting in December at the Norris Cabin in Altoona. It was a great night of fair business, friendship, and fellowship.

now contributing more than they ever have by paying a premium fee to offset the cost of our stages and equipment. I truly believe this will go a long way in facilitating a better partnership between all of our fairs and our associate members. Please join me in honoring the hard work they are putting into our convention by inviting them to our fairs. I would be remiss if I did not take the opportunity to thank all mem-

bers of the showcase committee for working diligently to provide a dynamic display and selection of entertainment for the 2016 convention. We have been very careful to select excellent, affordable entertainment from which you can choose, and we hope you will be pleased. Lots of exciting changes are on the horizon for our federation, includ-

ing this one, and I encourage you to take advantage of them and to join in the work – come to our convention, share information with fellow fairs, participate in workshops and get involved on committees. Lisa and Tom work incredibly hard to make this OUR Federation and some- thing from which we can all benefit. I look forward to seeing each of you soon at this year’s convention – especially at the showcases and trade show!

DON’T MISS THE FRIDAY NIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA OF SHOWCASES

A special thanks to the Norris family for their hospitality in hosting the winter board meeting.

The winter board meeting gave the Federation a special oppor- tunity to thank Carl Penn and wish him the best as he retires from the FDACS after 21 years. You have been a great asset to the Fair industry! You will be missed!

Tom Umiker, this year’s Federation President appointed Rick Vymlatil as the chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee. The committee met in conjunction with the win- ter board meeting to continue the development of the plan.
