Learn to be mindful in the woods – that’s the offer from a south Devon education and nature charity.

Participants will experience guided meditations in the Great Outdoors, movement & sitting practice close up to nature, medicine walks and the change to learn plant knowledge and lore and foraging and feasting on wild food. “At Sharpham, we are especially interested in mindfulness as a way of helping people reconnect to nature, towards building a more compassionate, sustainable and socially just world,” said Programme Manager Ben Ballard. “We’ve been a centre for mindfulness for

Wild food fans will enjoy our Forage & Feast Day on Sunday 20 March, with Sharpham’s resident forager Brigit-Anna McNeill leading a walk through the Estate to find – and then deliciously cook-up - nature’s bounty. There are monthly mindfulness practice drop-in sessions, for those looking to sustain and strengthen their practice within a group. These happen in the South Wing at Sharpham House on Thursday March 24 and Thursday 28 April. There’s also a 1-Day Introduction to Mindfulness workshop on Saturday 16 April. There’s a Day of Silent Meditation at The Barn


on Saturday March 26. This begins from Totnes’ Steam Packet Inn with a silent walk to the Barn. One of Sharpham’s quarterly open days happens in April. On Sunday April 3, it is the Spring Garden Open Day. This year it will be extra special as it is the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown, the famed landscaper thought to have designed Sharpham’s parkland. Other retreats at Sharpham More than 1,500 people benefitted from teachings via The Sharpham Trust in 2015 and this is set to rise. 2016 retreats in Grade 1-listed Georgian villa Sharpham House include Moments to Savour: Conscious Cookery and Mindful Eating, a creative writing and meditation retreat, the Taking Mindfulness Deeper retreat and the popular Mindfulness for Beginners, yoga and walking retreats. There are also 6-night retreats in the Buddhist tradition, beginning each Sunday at the renowned Barn Retreat Centre.
