An update from Primary 6

Titanic Primary 6 launched their new learning all about the Titanic this term. We were excited to each take on the role of a passenger from the actual Titanic. We have been researching our passengers and facts about the Titanic to write diary entries, biographies, fact fi les and we will be recreating events from the Titanic story through drama and poetry. We have particularly enjoyed learning about Archimedes discovery and investigating buoyancy through experiments and a model building challenge.

Euro Quiz Primary 6 have been chosen to take part in a competition about Europe, where they will compete with other schools in a Euro Quiz. All schools in Scotland have the opportunity to compete. The children taking part completed 3 heats to have the chance to compete in the Euro Quiz. It was a tough process but our team is now down to 8 and the fi nal 4 competitors will be chosen in January. They are working hard to prepare for the team selection and the offi cial competition in March. The team will be researching and building their knowledge of various aspects of Europe over the next few months. Good Luck!

Newton Primary School

Newton Choir Newton Choir have been practising every week on a

Tuesday in the build up to performing at diff erent events over the festive period. We practise our songs with Mrs Miller and Miss Nicol at our lunchtime club. We have performed at the Christmas Market, and at the Cathedral Halls. On the 5th of December we went to the Cathedral Halls to sing at the Strathcarron Hospice coff ee morning. We sang several Christmas songs and also helped to serve tea, coff ee and mince pies to the guests. A grand total of

£609 was raised for Strathcarron Hospice, and we really enjoyed helping to raise money for the charity. Everybody was really proud of us.

Kilometre Club In P6 we have all been doing something called Kilometre Club. During Kilometre Club we all run for as long as we can and as fast as we can. Each lap represents a fi fth of a Kilometre and after every 5 laps you have completed 1km. The aim of Kilometre Club is to push yourself to your limits trying to achieve as many Kilometres as possible. There is a special award for every ten Kilometres you achieve starting at 10km then 20km, 30km etc.

In class we are counting up

all the Kilometres we have run and have started an imaginary back packing trip around Europe, stopping at all the main capital cities starting with Edinburgh. So far as a class we have run 920km! I think that this is a great idea to help children have fun, get fresh air and have lots of great exercise.
