Natural Health: The Common Cold...

Over the Christmas and New Year period many of us seem to fall victim to winter chill. So I would like to off er some timely advice for treating the common cold.

Firstly, let me say that having a cold is not in itself a bad thing. It is a sign that the immune system is working and helping the body to fi ght off infection. However colds that last more than a few days or occur frequently are a sign that help is needed.

Homeopathic remedies are very useful in supporting the body’s own healing system to deal with the symptoms. For example for the sudden onset of a chill, the fi rst remedy to always try is Aconite. Take it as soon as possible as it can halt the progression to a full-blown infection or even knock the cold right out.

Arsenicum is indicated if the cold streams with watery, burning discharge. Finally if the cold persists to the catarrhal stage with yellow or even green discharge the remedy is typically Pulsatilla. The key note with this that the suff erer is usually better for being outside, and can be tearful and emotional. Homeopathic remedies are available from health shops and good chemist shops. Advice on dosage is on the packaging or you can ask the staff at the point of sale.

Complimentary to the above remedies is New Era Combinations of Tissue Salts. This is the one for coughs, colds and chestiness and is a must for the health cabinet.

For a natural, powerful antibiotic I recommend Bee Propolis tablets. This is a fantastic substance created by the bees to maintain the health of the hive. It has a powerful eff ect against harmful bugs including virus and fungus but does not harm friendly bacteria. So it is kinder on the stomach than classic antibiotics and is very fast acting.

There are many natural things which we have at our disposal to fi ght the common cold. I hope you will feel confi dent enough to try some the next time you start to feel one coming on.
