It is a Christmas Tale with a Diff erence!!
The Christmas spirit is really upon us, what with all the festivities in the High Street of Dunblane recently, and the Christmas trees and lights brightening up the darkening nights. This year there also appears to be an even closer synergy with Christmas, as far as the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane is concerned.
Firstly, at the centre of all our activities this year is Mary. Since July, Mary Fraser has been our President, and she is the fi rst lady president since the Club was founded over 40 years ago. In this role, she has demonstrated great skill in delivering masterful control of meetings with a gentle feminine touch.
However, we also have our own Nickolas. Nick Rawlings is our President Elect, and while he may not be a saint, in conjunction with Mary, he works tirelessly to ensure all the Club’s activities are fully and timeously delivered.
We are not sure whether we have an Angel, or just a good shepherd in Gilly Adams. She certainly nurtures, guides, and encourages her fl ocks of Interactors and Rotakids at QVS. These two groups are particularly busy at this time of year, both with their involvement with the “Winter Treat” for our older citizens (pictured above), but also with the annual “shoebox” collection for disadvantaged children and families. Together with the children from other schools and organisations we have managed to fi ll over 340 boxes and these have been sent to children and families in central Europe.
There may also be some doubt about our “Three Wise Men”. Certainly Iain Fraser, our Club Secretary is not only very knowledgeable about a wide range of Rotary topics, but he also brings some gems of information to every meeting! However, John Kilby is more fundamental, as he is responsible for ensuring that there is a range of tasty crepes available to celebrate at many events each year. Finally there is Alan Lee, who is our quietly spoken Treasurer, who is responsible for all our gold!
Mary Fraser and the Council and members of The Club would like to wish all readers of theWire a Happy and Healthy New Year.
