Todd's cat train on the way from Churchill to Seal River, Man., over the frozen ice of Hudson Bay. “One of the really neat things we did this year on Ice Road

Truckers was a joint run with Todd and Lisa, from Churchill to Seal River, halfway to Arviat across Hudson Bay. At the end of the season we flew everyone to Churchill and they drove a cat train pulling 200,000 pounds, including an ex- cavator, in four sleds across the bay. It was really cool. Tis year we’d like to see if we can push all the way to Arviat with

a cat train, or get some partners to build a road on Hudson Bay. Tat’s my goal. I’m ambitious and a bit of a dreamer but I think it would be really cool to build an ice road on Hudson Bay. It’s the History Channel and we’d be making history. Tat is our long term goal,” claims Mark. Tune in or catch up on the series on the HISTORY go App or at HISTORY.ca.

History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers

The making of the show itself is incredible and you have to admire the camera people. Accompanying each driver are four camera men, dash cams, a chase vehicle, and “go pros” that run ahead to set up shots. There are three to five guys living in an SUV following each driver on their hauls. Plus, occasionally a helicopter flies overhead to take in some stunning aerials.

Nothing on the show is ever faked, everything is real and the camera people are often riding along on some pretty hairy adventures. These are real ice road truckers that have been hired by the show and have developed a following. They are highly skilled at the work they do.

Art Burke. He’s a good, hard-working guy. He is also very funny but can be made out to be goofy on the show. He has worked at Polar for three seasons.

Darrell Ward. Darrell is larger than life. He’s loud but a hell of a worker. He will get the job done. He worked for rival VP before coming to Polar to work for two seasons. Last year he started his own company.

Lisa Kelly. She’s an extremely hard worker who loves the adrenaline. She actually got angry with Mark the first year for sending her on “easy” runs because she enjoys the chal- lenge. Lisa worked at Polar for two seasons. Last season she went to work with Darrell and his start-up company.

Todd Dewey. He’s an amazing worker who has a lot of expertise on the ice roads. He has worked for Polar for the last two seasons.

Alex Debogorski. Nicknamed Preacher-man, he is a tall, loud man that loves to laugh and is deeply religious. He worked at Polar for three seasons.

Mike Simmons. Newcomer to Polar this past season, Mike is well equipped to handle Manitoba’s ice roads.
