lasgow Chamber of Commerce welcomes its two newest Platinum Partners,
University of Glasgow and ScotishPower. Te University of Glasgow is a
jewel in the crown of the Higher Education sector and the wider economy of the city. It is a significant employer in
the city with more than 6,000 staff, including 2,000 active researchers. Te university has more than 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from more than 120 countries worldwide. A place of learning that, as it
says, has been inspiring people to change the world for more than 550 years, it is currently planning major changes to improve its future contribution. Over the next few years the
University will transform its campus as part of a £775 million development plan in what is expected to be the biggest single development project in the city over the period. It will also be the largest estates
project in the history of what is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world, since it moved to the west end from the city centre in the 1870s. Te university will grow its
footprint, including into areas currently occupied by the Western Infirmary. It will develop new buildings and bring some of its historic and iconic ones up to a level to allow them to beter support students and researchers. Te changes will be aimed at further increasing the university’s
standing in major rankings. It is ranked at number 55 in QS World University Rankings for 2014, meaning it is in the top one per cent. Glasgow University has
improved its position in the Research Excellence Framework Ranking, where it has risen nine places over the past year to sit in 24th spot. It has an annual research income of more than £181 million. ScotishPower has been at the
heart of energy generation and distribution in Glasgow, and beyond, for more than 100 years. Te company provides energy
services to around 200,000 businesses throughout the UK. ScotishPower recognises that,
