Glasgow picked for Davis Cup semi-final

Glasgow scored another sporting success with the news that the Lawn Tennis Association chose the city for the Davis Cup semi-final between Great Britain and Australia. The event, sponsored by BNP

Paribas World Group, took place at the Emirates Arena on 18 to 20 September.

The sporting clash was the 13th

meeting between the two nations dating back to 1907, with Australia holding an eight-four advantage prior to the September meeting. The two nations have split their last six meetings, with Great Britain winning the last UK-based event 3-2. Leon Smith, Captain of the

Aegon GB Davis Cup Team, said when the match was announced: “We have had incredible support any time we played at home, none more so than when we played in Glasgow. “Playing indoors allows the

noise level to go through the roof and will give our team the ideal platform they need to get inspired.

Councillor Frank McAveety Appointment “This will be important against a

nation with the Davis Cup pedigree of Australia as we try to reach the final of competition for the first time in nearly 40 years.” Andy Murray, currently the

world men’s number three, said: “It’s exciting for the team to be going back to Glasgow. It’s always special to play in front of a home crowd and we are fortunate to have played our last three ties at home. “We had a unique atmosphere

in Glasgow – the crowd was unbelievable.”

Free Glasgow Energy app

Glasgow businesses and residents are being offered help to cut their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions. A new free app from Future

City Glasgow enables people to compare their property’s energy use to that of similar buildings and get tips on how to make it more efficient. Glasgow Energy app users who input information about their building, the types of energy they use and their energy consumption will receive information on similar properties for comparison. If the app shows their property

could perform better, they will be able to access advice on steps they could take to improve it. The new app is one element of Glasgow City Council’s drive to cut carbon

emissions and help people reduce their bills. Data supplied by Glasgow

Energy app users will also help build up a more detailed picture of the types of energy used in different properties across the city and how energy efficient the buildings are. This data will help create a 3D energy model of the city. Future City Glasgow, a £24 million programme led by Glasgow City Council, developed the app in partnership with Glasgow headquartered IES (Integrated Environmental Solutions). The Glasgow Energy app can be

downloaded for free from the app store and Google Play. Find out more about Future
