ational Families in Action (NFIA) (htp://nationalfamilies.org/index. html) has been helping to protect

children from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs since 1977. Based out of Atlanta, GA, the NFIA

obtained the nation’s first state laws banning the sale of drug paraphernalia and led a nationwide effort to prevent the marketing of drugs and drug use to children and helped them form parent groups to protect children’s health. Teir website is rich in resources

valuable to the drug and alcohol testing industry. It’s newest website, htp:// themarijuanareport.org/, aggregates stories about marijuana covered in the print and broadcast media as well as access to infographics, toolkits and fact sheets about marijuana, alcohol and tobacco use. Teir “But What About the Children?”

campaign and website explains why legalizing marijuana is a bad idea, in particular for the children. NFIA encourages constituents to demand that policymakers legalizing marijuana not allow marketing aimed at children, as done with tobacco and alcohol. NFIA provides 12 provisions to protect children if marijuana is legalized: htp://www. butwhatabouthechildren.org/about/. An example of advertising toward children can be seen in the videos section. NFIA’s Parent Corps program trains

parents on preventing their children from using alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. Modeled on the same principles as the Peace Corps, it harnesses the power of parents working together to keep their children drug free. Te Parent Corps recruits, trains, certifies, and pays part-time or full-time salaries to “Parent Leaders” for two years of service. alcohol, drugs, and prevention to name a few: htp://www.parentcorps.org/ parentcorps_links.php. Available on DATIA website, NFIA

produced a White Paper called “What Will Legal Marijuana Cost Employers?” designed to help employers understand the impact marijuana legalization will have on their ability to conduct business

as well as how to cope with it. Go to “Resources” on our website, select “Marijuana Outreach Resources” and scroll down to “White Papers” to find this and other resources on marijuana. NFIA provides these resources for

the public and DATIA encourages our members to utilize these resources and those available on our website. 
