(that oſten cannot be accomplished by availability of suitable techniques), must drive companies to perform effective prevention campaigns to avoid self- medication, and generate awareness on workers to report if they are using drugs. Companies also should include the screening of drugs that oſten are not taken into account within the examinations and, last but not least, create clear policies to help people overcome such problems. Companies must begin to consider
the possibility that there is abuse of substances other than cocaine and marijuana and be aware that it is a problem that may be going unnoticed. Colombia’s government must begin to
address this problem methodologically with concrete studies that clarify the
real situation of drug abuse in order to establish clear policies for prevention and reduction of consumption and strengthen programs for alcohol and drugs at the workplace as it is done in other countries.

bacteriologist and Clinical Lab Technician from the University of Pamplona in Colombia, with extensive experience in the analysis of
biological samples in clinical laboratory. She earned her master’s degree in Toxicology at the National University of Colombia, there coordinated the laboratory of toxicology of this institution and worked on research. Her emphasis is given in analytical toxicology, especially on drugs of abuse. She currently serves as Service Manager at ELAD S.A. supporting companies in the implementation of drug free workplace programs, and advising clients in the management of control systems according to international recommendations and national legislation.
