Urgent Needs

1. Provide a kitchen stove or oven to the orphanage — $3,300 to $3,900 each 2. Give underwear, socks & sleepwear to a child — Gift of $25 3. Supply bedding, sheets & towels — Gift in any amount 4. Give a washing machine to the orphanage — $775 each

Resources are extremely limited and barely meet basic needs. The regular vis- its of Ghiorghi and his mission teams bring rare gifts of love, support and com- passion. I was overwhelmed as I saw the children’s faces light up as they received an orange, banana, a small toy or a ball.

As we toured the grounds, the staff shared the overwhelming odds they faced each day as they tried to care for the children. They were cooking meals on a 25-year-old stove and using an oven that only partially worked. They washed load after load in undersized wash- ing machines. Clotheslines were filled with small worn socks, tat- tered underwear, torn sheets and threadbare towels.

Somehow, in the midst of this suf- fering, there was hope. Hope that Christians from thousands of miles away could help meet just a few of their needs. Hope that maybe if people found a way to work to- gether, the children could have their physical and spiritual needs met.

As we ended our tour and studied the conditions that are a part of everyday life for the children and the staff, a thought hit me. Wouldn’t meeting the needs of a Children’s Home in a little-known city in Moldova exemplify Christian relief to the stranger and to the fatherless? It would be an amazing testimony of the love of Jesus and the faith of those who follow His words. Let’s reach out to the children of Moldova and give them a few small gifts that show God loves them and so do we.
