MAJOR STORMS LEAD TO URGENT NEEDS IN PHILIPPINES “Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me…Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies. And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. — Psalm 69:1-2, 16-17
“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
— Psalm 61:1-2
I am writing to let you know of an urgent humanitarian need in my area of the Philippines, particularly within the municipalities of Glan in the Sarangani province and Jose Abad Santos in the Davao Del Sur province.
Moderate rain started on the morning of June 22. The storm soon grew stronger and was accompanied by fierce winds off the Mindanao Sea. On the evening of June 23rd
until the late afternoon of June 24th , the winds were
so strong they broke down coconut trees, banana trees and other vegeta- tion. Some houses were partially or completely torn apart. The continuous downpour of rain worsened the situation and triggered landslides in the hill- side farms of tribal peoples, damaging their crops of corn, rice, banana, cas- sava, taro, camote and vegetables.
