A Report From Uganda by a WME Supporter


My name is Suzanne McDonald. I am the 58-year-old cousin of Victoria Cathcart, WME’s Chief Executive Officer. Victoria does much of the interna- tional traveling to third world countries that the WME ministry touches.


Earlier this year and shortly before Victoria was set to travel to Uganda, her usual travel partner at WME had to bow out because of unexpected health issues. As they quickly scrambled to find someone willing and able to travel on such short notice, I guess because I’m a fearless nature woman who loves adventure, my name came up. Basically, bugs don’t bother me, and I can adapt quickly and handle the living conditions which you endure while visiting these countries.


This was my first travel outside the North American continent. Needless to say, I was pumped. Upon arrival at Kampala, Uganda, I discovered the air- port was very antiquated, dark and HOT! Because it permeated everywhere we visited, the first thing that hit me was the smell. It was not a bad smell, just strong and different. By the end of the trip, I discovered this smell came from the many little 8-inch-round campfires everywhere burning coal wood and used to cook. Those fires left a haze of smoke over much of the country.
