building orphanages, helping schools, digging wells, supporting and training leaders of that culture, enabling them through education, teach- ing sustainability, personal responsibility, and the love of God’s ways to the people. This trip was a memorable experience I will never forget and an experience every American or someone from a privileged nation needs to have.
I can’t tell you how many times I have already used my experiences in Uganda to help put things into perspective for spoiled Americans (of which I’ll admit I am one) who get angry at a grocery check-out line for having to wait 15 minutes. Lightheartedly, I share, “I just got back from Africa where women have to walk 2+ miles round trip to an outdoor, fly- infested market in the heat and then carry the food on their heads and a couple of live chickens in their hands to an un-air-conditioned, no-electric- ity mud hut. At least our chickens are cleaned and packaged for the fridge.” And to that observation I would always get a “Thank you for making me realize how blessed we are.”
We ARE a blessed nation under God and need to turn and bless oth- ers with our abundance. Thank you WME for allowing me to go to Uganda.
