1 Devotional Thoughts... 8

by Victoria Cathcart, WME’s Chief Executive Officer

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked…” — Revelation 3:17

“…As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” — John 15:4-5

The saying goes, “WITH AGE COMES WISDOM.” And there is certainly truth to that statement. But for a Christian who achieves a level of spiritual maturity, you can recognize that with age and wisdom comes an ever-increasing humility before God. Proverbs drives home that very message by telling us: “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.”

The older I get, the more I learn. And learning is a process stretch- ing from the cradle to the grave. There is a saying on the school wall at our WME mission among the Maasai of Emuruadikir that re- minds the students, “YOU ARE NOT TOO OLD TO STUDY UNTIL YOU STOP EATING.” And to drive home that bit of wisdom, the Maasai have written a reference to Hosea 4:6, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.”
