“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
— I Peter 5:10
Serving the Lord is not a cake walk. Some of us go through trials of our faith early in life, and some of us late; but we all go through them.
Not long ago, I heard a young preacher say he heard a TV evangelist preach if people would come to Jesus, all their problems would be solved and their hard- ships disappear. The young pastor shared he had witnessed more suffering in his family and his flock during this year than ever before, and his reaction to the evangelist was, “How dare you!”
All of us go through things in life of one sort or another. None of us is exempt to trials and tribulations — some physical, some domestic, some emotional, some mental, some family, some work, some spiritual.
This year several members of the WME Family have faced deep waters. One dear lady lost a grown son to a sudden aneurism after having lost her only daugh- ter years earlier. A member of WME’s management had her husband undergo a physical crisis that put him in intensive care for weeks. A member of our Board of Directors has been dealing with a husband who suffered a stroke, as well as the loss of her beloved mother. Several ministry leaders and partners in our circle of fellowship have come into my office and poured out their hearts over similar expe- riences. But nonetheless, the work of God goes on, we hold onto our faith, and we continue to fight the good fight.
A chorus by Kittie Louise Suffield from years ago has been coming to me during the night:
“God is still on the throne, And He will remember His own; Tho’ trials may press us and burdens distress us, He never will leave us alone; God is still on the throne, He never forsaketh His own; His promise is true, He will not forget you, God is still on the throne.”
And He is still on the throne of your life. He is your father, and you are His child. So continue to walk with Him through the fires of life and move into that place of being perfectly established, strengthened and settled in Him.
It’s the best place in the world to be.
