8 . Glasgow Business August 2015
CHAMBER CHAT
With Andrew Dobbie, Founder, MadeBrave®, and Director, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce
BUSINESS
Describe your role/job? I have a great team driving MadeBrave® forward, so now I mostly deal with the business side of things like meeting with clients, recruiting staff, business strategy, talking about MadeBrave® at events and, of course, being a member of the Chamber.
What skills do you bring to the table/are required in your role?
Being a people person is a huge part of my role; it touches on every aspect of running a business. Knowing how to use Photoshop comes in handy too – you never know when you need to superimpose a warthog and a mouse to create a haggis.
What has been your career highpoint? Winning Best Performing Business (1-10 employees) at The Glasgow Business Awards was a huge moment for us.
What’s the best thing about Glasgow Chamber of Commerce? It is fully aware and genuinely interested in the businesses here in Glasgow – no matter what size. It has been a great support for me since day one and I know other businesses can say the same thing.
What one thing would you wish for Glasgow in the future? I’d say for it to continue as it’s doing – there’s loads of regeneration going on in different areas around the city (including Bridgeton in the East End, where we are) so I’d love to see it grow.
PERSONAL
What do you do to relax at the weekend? I go scooting at the skate park with my wife Pam and our three-year-old, Finlay, and then usually to Firebird in the West End for dinner.
What is your favourite city outside the UK and why? I love Florence – I got engaged there – or Barcelona; I’ve been a few times and would quite happily go back!
Name your favourite book, film and album? Book: Simon Sinek – Start With Why Film: The Lion King, closely followed by Anchorman Album: Guns & Roses – Appetite for Destruction
What is your most embarrassing or humbling experience? I was doing a magic trick when I was in India and
dropped my wedding ring down a drain in the street. As you can imagine, it was pretty busy – but a nice man managed to get it out with a coat hanger thankfully!
If you could host a dinner party with four guests, who would you choose (two living, two dead)? Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Ron Burgundy and Walt Disney.
