Business travellers say free wi-fi is

twice as important as a free breakfast

Te travel industry is abuzz over one of the biggest market- disrupting trends in recent times – the rise of the sharing economy. But you may be more familiar with the brands which are in the vanguard. One is Uber. It provides an app which connects paying passengers with drivers located nearby through GPS who own their own car and who have ticked a few other boxes to register. It’s pitched as a cheaper alternative to the traditional taxi and has proved popular, but has also had its share of controversies – not least over the low level of checks required to start as a driver, surging costs at peak times (such as the recent tube strikes in London) and labour rights for those behind the wheel. It’s in operation in 57 cities around the world, including London, Leeds and Manchester in the UK, but has yet to make an appearance in Glasgow. THIRD BIRTHDAY FOR TURKISH AIRLINES AT EDINBURGH AIRPORT

On 16 July Turkish Airlines celebrated its third anniversary at Edinburgh Airport. Passengers were welcomed

onto the tarmac with the sounds of bagpipes. They were also greeted with a special third year anniversary cake and Turkish delight from the airline’s own flying chefs. Celebrations continued throughout the week, which included competitions around the airport to win tickets. Turkish Airlines also took over the airport’s social media and were encouraging people to use the hashtag #TurkishAirlinesTakeover and to post their selfies alongside cut outs of Lionel Messi that were placed around the airport to win prizes.

The airline has had much

to celebrate as this year it was awarded ‘Best Airline in Europe’ for

the fifth year in a row. This award was won alongside World’s Best Business Class Airline Catering, World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining and the impressive CIP Lounge in Istanbul was voted World’s Best Business Class Lounge.

The airline has come a long

way in a short period of time. Back in 2012 Turkish Airlines was flying out of Edinburgh four times a week to 217 destinations in 96 countries. Fast forward to 2015 and Turkish Airlines is now flying nine times during its summer schedule to 276 destinations in 110 countries. In fact, it flies to more countries than any other airline.
