Route to business in South A
delegation from Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI)
visited Glasgow Chamber in June to discuss ways to improve business links between the two areas. Te visit followed the launch of
Flybe’s twice-daily service, which means that the two areas are now around an hour apart in travel terms. Te two Chambers hope the ease of travelling between the two regions will enable them to do business in key areas, potentially including engineering, finance, tourism, trade, exhibitions and leisure, marine, defence, renewable energy technology, mass participation events and food and drink. Te six-strong Dorset
delegation took off from Dorset just before 9am and were back before 5pm. Te 912-mile round trip would have taken about 16 hours non-stop by road. Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive

of Glasgow Chamber, said: “Te trade delegation from Dorset was warmly welcomed by Glasgow Chamber. We can provide our members with access to DCCI’s
in-depth knowledge of the markets and players in Dorset and further afield on the South Coast. “Tanks to the DCCI, plus the promotion of AFC Bournemouth
to the Premier League and Flybe’s direct flights to the county, Glasgow will be hearing a lot more about Dorset and what it can offer businesses in Scotland.”

The Congress event, which is held every two years, was attended by around 800 delegates from Chambers around the world. The event featured talks on global trade, global
mobility, cyber security and a sustainable world: food, water, energy and natural resources as well as looking at best practice in membership value, recruitment and retention.
Richard Muir, Deputy
Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber, said: “It was great for Glasgow Chamber to be recognised for the quality of its work with youth employment. We would
like to congratulate the winner, Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce in Turkey, who just pipped us at the post for the award. “The event allowed us
to benchmark our services against other Chambers from around the world. It was very useful to get a sense of where we are in Glasgow Chamber in terms of the development of our member services. “There were some
very useful networking opportunities with Chambers in Europe and around the world which we hope will lead to some direct benefits for our members.”
