Whatever you are insuring, whether it be your dream home, or an investment property that you wish to rent out, whether it’s your fancy new car that has taken you years to save for, your boat that you have waited to enjoy in your retirement, or your beloved pet who you want to ensure has the best possible care in case of an emergency, it is very important to make sure you have the right product specifically designed to suit your individual needs, as everybody’s needs are different.

With your house insurance it is important to have the correct product. You need to declare all your security measures, and correctly declare the amount of your contents. Just imagine if there was a fire and you lost everything inside your house, be realistic in how much it really will cost to replace everything. In Spain for example, the kitchen is included in the contents and not the buildings, that’s all the cupboards, white goods, a whole new kitchen. Be realistic ladies, how many shoes and handbags do you really have, it soon adds up if you need to replace everything. Make sure that you have the correct coverage for your jewellery. Usually there is a certain standard amount for your valuables, is it enough? If not you will need to increase the contents amount to allow for having extra jewellery and you will probably need to list the items showing the value of each. Make sure you also have the correct square metreage of the property, inside and out as well as the size of the pool if there is one. If not, in the event of a claim, the assessor may well say that you are under insured and you will not receive the full amount of your claim.
