Highly Efficient Heat Pumps!

Despite energy companies recently announcing reductions in prices, longer term, rises are inevitable. So the search continues for more efficient ways to operate. Heat pumps are a firm favourite within the industry as they provide an economical way to heat pools whilst being environmentally friendly. With a lot of options on offer, choosing the correct one is essential, so we place the spotlight on what’s available By Jon Wadeson

hen it comes to heating the water in a swimming pool, there’s no denying the efficiency of heat pumps and

both the industry and pool owners have been quick to embrace the technology and savings that they provide.

Despite the recent reduction in UK energy prices, the advantages of using a pool heat pump still remain clear. Whilst the cost to the consumer of gas and heating oil fuels have reduced, so proportionally has the cost of the electricity utilised by a heat pump and a typical 10m x 5m outdoor UK swimming pool that has one can expect lower operating costs when compared to a mains gas boiler and can save some 40,000 kWh of energy per season by comparison.

Producing several times more energy than they consume is the key to their efficient operation but with a wide variety of brands and models on offer, selecting the correct one isn’t always an easy task. With some careful research though, the correct product isn’t too hard to find and we take a look at some of the options and brands that are available in 2015.

Greater interest in environmentally friendly and cost effective pool heating has seen an increase in the use of heat pumps to heat all manner of pools. To meet the demand, Waterco has added to its heat pump range the Electroheat XL with heat output capacities 12, 15, 19 and 23kW which are ideal for heating plunge pools, swim spas, spas and swimming pools as a solar replacement/season extender. The Electroheat XL has been designed with ease of use and maintenance firmly in mind. For example, the LED control panel features a continuous digital pool temperature display and incorporates a self

diagnosis system. In the event of a problem, the control panel will display diagnostic error codes.

It has been built with ozone friendly R410A refrigerant, described as the refrigerant of the future, which has dual benefits. Not only is it kinder to the environment, but it also improves the heat pump’s performance.

Key features of the Electroheat XL include a high density dual coil titanium heat exchanger, R410A refrigerant gas, temperature management and self diagnosis, compact dimensions of 117cm (W) x 32cm (L) x 69cm (H), scroll compressor and a weather proof cabinet.

The Electroheat XL and a complete range

of Waterco heat pumps is available through Paramount Pool Products.
