TOWN LOTTERY HOPES TO RAISE FUNDS FOR POOL The people of Tenbury in Worcestershire have the chance to scoop £500 in their own lottery and at the same time will be raising much-needed funds for their local pool.

It is the latest initiative to secure the future of the swimming pool and leisure centre in the town and comes just a month after the day-to-day running of the facility passed to Freedom Leisure.

A five year grant of almost £70,000 a year has been secured from Malvern Hills District Council, but after that the swimming pool and leisure centre will be expected to be self-financing. While the routine running of the pool and leisure centre is the responsibility of Freedom Leisure, Tenbury Community Pool has to fund any major structural works for the pool, which was built in the 1960s.

£20M OLYMPIC- SIZED POOL PLAN FOR HULL

Plans are being drawn up for a £20m Olympic-sized swimming pool and ice rink on the site of a former department store in Hull city centre. Councillor Terry Geraghty, cabinet member for sport and leisure, has suggested a compulsory purchase order could be used to take over the former Edwin Davis department sto re site in Bond Street.

He said: “I want to see a 50m swimming pool, combined with an ice rink, in the city centre.

“Some people outside Hull still think we’re a backwater. We’re not and we’ll soon have an Olympic-size swimming pool.”

Cllr Geraghty said there had long been talk of a city centre Olympic-size pool to rival those in Leeds and Sheffield, but is now confident it is about to become a reality.

New Pool Finish Product Perfect For Fibreglass Pool Refurbishment

Cheshire based pool maintenance and repair specialists Tiling & Pool Projects (UK) Ltd were recently approached by the owner of a holiday park based in Northumberland to come up with a solution of a new finish to the existing fibreglass pool. After meeting on site and discussing the options available, the Aquabright Thermal Powder Coating system was suggested as the company are now an appointed applicator. The system has come over from the USA and is proving very popular both here and around Europe as an alternative to conventional tiling or pacelite/ marbline finishes. The client’s pool was sanded down and any areas repaired and prepared, ready for the new finish.

Aquabright is the perfect solution for private and commercial pools as it is a pneumatically applied, high performance thermal plastic coating that can eliminate most traditional pool finish shortcomings. It is a seamless system and is resistant to chipping, peeling and scratching.

The down time for a pool is shortened because it virtually cures immediately on contact, therefore along with the time saved applying it, the pool can then be filled straight away. The Aquabright Thermal Powder Coating system is available in a number of different colours, all of which are available all at the same price.

“Of course, we still have our core business of tiling, grouting and pacelite rendering where we work all over the UK with leisure centres, hotels, clubs and private clients, but b ecause we have invested in this new system we like to offer all our customers or potential customers alternatives,” said Tony Crank of Tiling & Pool Projects.
