P U B L I S H I N G

In last year’s April edition, I predicted “that 2014 has all the right ingredients to be a memorable year” and thankfully, as it turned out, it was. My prediction was based on a number of factors but mainly the shape of the UK economy combined with feedback and the feeling within the trade as a whole. With SPN having just exhibited at both the SPATEX trade show in Coventry and the UK Pool & Spa Expo in Birmingham, many in the trade are predicting another bumper year ahead for the industry. According to the Government, the economy is in great shape too, so are we looking again at another great year? Well, that of course is somewhat dependant on the UK having at least an average or better still, a good summer weather wise, but the signs of moving forward and building on a great 2014 are wide spread and the tougher times now appear to be fi rmly behind us. So it’s fi ngers crossed on the weather side of things!

Going back to the shows, we have reviews for each in this edition. At both, the exhibitors had pulled out all the stops and made a great effort with some impressive stands and great products on show. But with any hopes of a merger between the two events now fi rmly extinguished, the question of “does the UK really need two

industry shows?” still remains. That is particularly true when it comes to visitors having the time to attend two UK events so close together at the start of a year. I think the answer was apparent with SPATEX attracting roughly the same amount of visitors as 2014 and the UK Pool & Spa Expo seeing a drop in numbers on the previous year. So it will be interesting to see how these two shows co exist and what changes and developments are in store.

Also in this issue, we report on the winners from this year’s British Pool & Hot Tub Awards held by BISHTA and SPATA. The annual event held during SPATEX shines the spotlight on some of the best pool and hot tubs projects from across our industry and is a great opportunity to celebrate the quality and excellence that exists here in the UK.

Energy (and therefore money) saving products also play a big part in this issue with automatic pool covers and heat pumps both being featured as green and cost saving technologies. We also explore the growing market of quality one-piece and fi breglass pools that are taking the hassle out of installation for both pool builders and owners alike plus we’ve also a feature on the latest in pool liners and systems too.

Add to that the STA’s regular Pool Plant piece, which this issue is on fi lters, comment from Golden Coast Managing Director Jamie Adams regarding the information available to our industry (or general lack of it) plus our comprehensive round up of all the latest products and news from across the UK’s wet leisure industry and this edition should be one that you’ll fi nd hard to put down!
