• The Atlas Coal Mine, a national historic site near East Coulee, south of Drumheller, is home to Canada’s last wooden tipple.


• Four famous Alberta rivers fl ow through the Canadian Badlands: the Bow, the Red Deer, the Milk River, and the South Saskatchewan.


• The most bridges in the shortest distance in Canada, and maybe the world, are between Drumheller and Wayne (home of the famous Rosedeer Hotel). There are 11 bridges in 6.4 kilometres or 4 miles.


• The Bassano Dam is the largest earth-fi lled irrigation dam in the world.


• The Badlands region is a world exporter of beef, alfalfa, canola, wheat and sunfl ower seeds.


• Horsethief Canyon near Drumheller is where horse thieves hid stolen horses. The boxed canyon is open on only one side. The Canadian Badlands is also home to Horseshoe Canyon.


• Raymond is home to the original “Stampede” which began as a cattle drive down Main Street. Local cowboy Ray Knight helped Calgary start its famous stampede.


• Raymond is also Canada’s “sugar capital” for its beets.


• The Rosebud Theatre in the hamlet of Rosebud (pop.100) is western Canada’s largest rural theatre. It attracts 40,000 visitors every year.


• Etzikom (pop. 37) is home to Canada's only windmill museum.


• The Milk River is the only Canadian river to drain into the Mississippi River system. It was named by famous US explorers Lewis and Clarke for its peculiar milky appearance.


• Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is the only one of its kind in Canada. It sits on the highest point of land between the Canadian Rockies and eastern Canada. Sitting Bull and 6,000 Sioux followers fl ed to this region following the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.


• Long hours of sunlight, inexpensive natural gas and proximity to the TransCanada Highway have made Redcliff , AB, the "Greenhouse Capital of the Prairies.” Eighteen million English cucumbers as well as beefsteak tomatoes, tomatoes on a vine and sweet red and yellow peppers are grown at Redcliff and shipped to grocery stores across western Canada and as far south as Los Angeles.
