Parkview Drive - In June 2012, council added $4 million to budget for Parkview Drive. The artery would be built to four lanes immediately rather than two.


Southridge Drive ive — Widening the


southend artery and new trails paths in 2012 cost $11.7 million Southridge Drive.


South Boundary Road ad — Upgraded years

Buildings Fire halls


lls — Fire Station No. 3, built at a


cost of $3 million at the airport, opened in early 2005. To improve fire response times on the other edges of the city, two remaining stations will relocate by 2018. Station No. 2 will move to a new $5.3-million building on Trans-Canada Way in 2016.


Police Station expansion Family Leisure Centre nsion — A $20-million


three-storey expansion of the station opened in the fall of 2014.

expansion, including a new fieldhouse, large gymnasium and football field


improvements was first announced in the 2012 and is set to be completed in early 2016. The City’s share of a three-way funding scheme with the province and Ottawa is $16 million.


Event Centre re — Set to open in the late


summer of 2015, the $75 million arena is the culmination of 11 years of debate and planning. It will seat 6,100 for hockey and about 7,000 for concerts. All but $10 million is paid for out of the city’s construction reserve, built up by energy and business unit profits.


Floods Berms


s — A seven-kilometre berm system


for Medicine Hat’s program that could eventually reach $35 million. The province contributed an initial $15-million towards the projects, including sewer drain upgrades, and the city has applied for further relief.


Bridges — Crossings along the Ross and Seven Persons creeks were both rebuilt with provincial funds following floods since 2010. As well, City engineers are hoping to further reconfigure bridges in the Kipling Street corridor as flood resiliency and berming dollars become available from the province. ■
