players and everything else, but we're out-drawing a lot of those minor pro leagues.”
Morrison added he hopes to see baseball in Medicine Hat continue to thrive from the minor league level all the way up to the WMBL, and he expects the number of local products on the Mavericks to keep rising.
“There's a real good crop of guys coming through that are graduating Legion for 2016, so I'm hopeful we're going to have six or seven guys, which would be the most ever,” he said. “I'd love nothing more in the next 15 years if 24 guys on the Medicine Hat Mavericks were from Medicine Hat.”
The Mavericks could likely see another local face join the ranks as early as this summer, as Legion infielder Nolan Rattai is poised to make the jump to WMBL ball.
“We're pretty pumped about him,” said Morrison. “He's young enough that he could play another year of Legion, but we feel he's ready to take the step up and will
probably be our everyday third baseman or second baseman.”
The Mavericks have the entire coaching staff returning to the dugout this season, which includes head coach Adam Shorsher, who Morrison says “turned the team around” with his down to earth and inspirational approach to coaching.

“To win a championship with that many games and only using seven (pitchers) was pretty impressive, and Shorsher had a lot to do with that,” said Morrison. “He really wants guys to be good people and he cares ... We're lucky that we can get a guy like that who can pick up for two-and-a-half months and come to a league like this when he could easily be coaching professionally with his background.”

The growing tradition of success is also paving the way for a potential WMBL record for returnees, as they Mavericks could see up to 12 championship players come back to Athletic Park for the 2015 season.
“The fact that they're championship players bodes well that we can hopefully have a good run at it … I'd love to have a repeat this year, and our players are coming back for those reasons,” said Morrison. “If you look at setting a league record for wins the year before, then getting the championship, if we could go to the championship and win it again I think that would really secure what we are and what the organization has been for the last five years.” ■
