Macdonald says he still sees the need for a video store in the region, and notes the closing of the two largest chains sent the wrong message.
“I’ve always said for the last 10 years or so, when everyone can afford the same technology and when your TV is basically a supercomputer and you can run a streaming service where you have access, you can type into your computer, for example “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” ... and it’s there instantly and you pay a monthly fee for it, that will effectively end any kind of demand for a video store.”

“When they died, it sent out the message that video stores were dead, which was not true,” he said. “I think what hurt the video industry the most was the thought that Blockbuster not being around meant video stores were
dead, which was not true. That news probably closed more video stores”
Despite the changing tides of the industry, Macdonald says as long as there is a demand for renting movies, Movie Experts will remain open. ■
