Preventing illnesses of our pets leads to an increase in the quality of life for our pets and for us. Improving their quality of life increases their happiness which then increases our happiness.

Preventative medicine is centred around increasing wellbeing and monitoring health. This way we can mostly avoid illnesses, this is not just a benefit for our pets but also in our children and us, because some illnesses, called Zoonoses, can be transmitted to us by our pets and affect humans.

Since the beginning, medicine has centred itself on diagnosis of an illness and the curing of it, and with this a wide variety of curative medicine has been developed. But recent advances have proven the great importance in monitoring and focusing on health care, eliminating health risks and taking measures to keeping good health, and to be able to diagnose illnesses in their initial phase. This way we are least likely to reach an advanced stage of an illness which would be harder to resolve and in some cases impossible.

Preventative medicine is based on 5 fundamental points.

1. Provide wellbeing, the environmental conditions will affect health, a clean warm and cosy environment is very important for the general health of your pets. 2. Keep up with parasite treatments, it’s just as important to treat internal and external parasites as they lower the immune system, and our pets won’t have as many defences against illness. Parasites can transmit some very serious infections. 3. Vaccinate annually against rabies and other infectious illnesses that affect cats and dogs. 4. Give an adequate diet for your pet’s age and health; cats and dogs now have a longer life expectancy thanks to the advances in animal nutrition. The type of food you give is very important to maintain optimal health. 5. Do early diagnosis and tests to detect endemic diseases like Canine Leishmania, disease transmitted by ticks or even feline Leukemia. Treatment will be more successful if these are caught in the early phase.

For this reason we have developed our prevention plans, a simple way to keep on top of all your pets needs. As we said at the start, “Prevention is better than cure” for your pets and you! If you would like any more information on this matter please get in contact with us.
