Put your Best Foot Forward with REMA Our feet are extremely important; they carry our weight our whole lives.
But incorrect foot positioning and foot disorders are very common amongst older adults and may lead to outcomes
such as falls and functional limitation. And incorrect foot positioning is frequently the cause of knee, hip and back pain.
Even children and adolescents are now regularly affected, because modern and cheaper footwear is often not made to the exacting standards of the yester-years, and can cause foot positioning problems and resultant pain.
Recently much progress has been made in the understanding of the links between specifi c foot disorders, foot posture, and foot function.
The main causes of foot mal-positions are: • Weakness of the connective tissue • Instability of the ligaments • Weak foot muscles, especially the small foot muscles
