On April 23rd British residents of Alfaz del Pi are planning a fun day to celebrate the patron saint of England: St George. The event will take place at the cafe-bar L’Estacion – the TRAM station in Alfaz - from 14.00hrs onwards. There will be music and singers with Vince The Prince as compere and a barbecue too. The Royal British Legion will be represented with a stand providing poppy memorabilia for a donation to the Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Tickets for the day are 5 Euros and these proceeds will be donated to the Alfaz Food Bank. As organiser Sue Rush says “There is Norwegian Day and Orange Day and St Patricks Day and other Days, it’s time we celebrated St George”! Come along and join us wherever you come from.

The Costa’s leading Male Voice Choir under the direction of the renowned Nigel Hopkins will be visiting the area of Alfaz del Pi on a special return visit. The Orihuela Costa MVC were such a great success on their previous tour that I was delighted to hear that they wanted to come back.
They gave their audiences so much pleasure and at the same time they raised a big donation for the AECC. Director Nigel Hopkins, as all who follow choral music will be aware, is a man of exceptional talent. After a career in opera and oratorio and with much concert experience, Mr. Hopkins was also to become known as a conductor and musical director and conducted some famous orchestras and world class soloists. Amongst them the English Symphony Orchestra (principal conductor Sir Yehudi Menuhin) on two occasions and the soloists under Nigel’s baton include Julian Lloyd Webber. Not surprising that he is a much sought-after voice coach and choir director and he has organised several Choral workshops and formed choirs in the UK, one of the most famous being his RLS Children’s Choir which performed in the Monastery of Montserrat and Barcelona Cathedral. After moving to Spain in 2009. Nigel has formed 4 high-standard and very popular choral groups. It is one of these, the 35 strong OCMVC, that he will be bringing to Alfaz to entertain us and to raise a donation for the local branch of the Spanish National Cancer Charity. To fill your heart with song attend the first concert at Forum Mare Nostrum, Alfaz on Saturday 11th April at 6pm or the Sunday morning concert at FRAX, Albir on 12th April at 12 noon. Entrance to both concerts will be by donation and initial enquiries to 96 686 0735 or email
